Grammar note

Reflexive verbs in the past

Reflexives take être, and the pronoun goes before it: je me suis levé, tu t'es reposé, nous nous sommes promenés.

The participle agrees with the subject: elle s'est levée, ils se sont promenés. This one *is* audible in some cases (elle s'est assise), so it's worth drilling.

Cultural note

Rendre visite vs. visiter

You visiter a place and rendre visite à a person. J'ai visité ma grand-mère suggests you toured her like a museum — the correct form is j'ai rendu visite à ma grand-mère.

It's a small distinction that native speakers notice immediately.
