At B1 you could state a position. At B2 you have to hold one while somebody argues back, and that turns on a single move: grant their point, then keep your own.
French sorts its concessives by mood, and the sorting is absolute. One group always takes the subjunctive, one group never does, and mixing them is the error that marks a B1 writer at B2.
