Grammar note

Reflexives take essere — and agree

Mi sono riposato (a man), mi sono riposata (a woman), ci siamo divertiti (a group). The pronoun goes first, then essere, then the agreeing participle.

This is one of the places where Italian gender agreement is unavoidable — you have to know whether you're describing yourself as -o or -a.

Cultural note

Andare a trovare

To visit a person is andare a trovare — literally "to go to find". Visitare is for places and for doctors examining patients: ho visitato Roma, but sono andato a trovare mia nonna.

Getting these the wrong way round is a classic learner slip.
